Kwarts Publishers sponsors Africa Wednesday initiative on facebook

Books and Everything (B&E) is a group on Facebook where authors, readers, reviewers, editors, publishers, book sellers etc. get together to chat about books, providing a great support network for new and developing authors. B&E hosts regular online Q&A sessions with authors as well as competitions to win books. Another attraction is the regular book reviews.

The newest initiative on B&E is Africa Wednesday, providing a platform for African writers. Kwarts Publishers is proud to be on board with Africa Wednesday, and will be sponsoring the initiative with great enthusiasm! We will be featuring some of our authors and giving away book prizes as part of this initiative. The first book to be reviewed and given as a prize is "The Death of Nowongile" by the author Monde Nkasawe.

The Death of Nowongile is a fictional account of an ordinary woman, who is subjected to abuse and violence for almost all of her married life. Her violent death at the hands of her husband unlocks long-held, dark family and community secrets. In particular, the story recounts the chain of events that are set in motion in the aftermath of the murder of Nowongile, including the resulting conflict between the relevant clans, the mobilizing effect this death has on the women of Qwebeqwebe and other surrounding villages, and a community rebellion. Set in the rural areas of the Transkei in the Eastern Cape, the novel relives a week of turmoil in the families of Jongeni and Mzauliwa and in the tribal clans of amaBhele and amaMpinga as they deal with the aftermath of the death of a daughter, and a wife. The story is also set against a backdrop of post liberation South Africa and in its narration it reflects on the quality of life of the people living in rural areas, especially in terms of institutions of state that support life and service provision in rural areas.
